  Tin Man (2007) is a reimagining of L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, set in a dystopian world with a darker and more complex narrative. The series, created by Steven Long Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle, is a sci-fi miniseries that blends elements of fantasy and steampunk. In this adaptation, the world of the Oz is called the O.Z., and it has fallen into chaos. The story centers around DG, a young woman who, after surviving an assassination attempt, is thrust into this magical land, only to discover that she has a significant destiny linked to the fate of the O.Z. DG’s journey parallels Dorothy’s in Baum’s original, though with significant twists and a more mature and gritty tone. As DG uncovers her past and her role in the struggle for control over the O.Z., she is joined by an eclectic group of characters, including Glitch, a former royal advisor with a fractured brain; Cain, a former lawman who was transformed into a Tin Man; and Raw, a loyal creature with a mysterious power. These characters aid DG in her quest to defeat the evil sorceress, Azkadellia, and restore peace to the O.Z.

Cain's backstory adds depth to the narrative, as he was once a respected officer who was tragically transformed into a man of metal after being betrayed by his former ally. His heart was removed, both literally and metaphorically, as part of a curse. As a result, Cain is a figure torn between his old sense of duty and his new, colder existence. Over the course of the series, Cain's emotional growth mirrors that of DG’s, as he is forced to confront his past actions and his relationship with his former partner, the sorceress Azkadellia.
