About this video
As Cool as I Am (2013) is an American comedy-drama directed by Max Mayer, starring Sarah Bolger, Claire Danes, and James Marsden. The film follows 16-year-old Lucy Diamond, a smart and independent teenager growing up in a small town while navigating changing family relationships, friendship, sexuality, and the difficult transition from adolescence to adulthood.
Lucy has a close relationship with her father, Chuck, despite his long absences for work in Canada, while her relationship with her mother, Lainee, is more complicated. As Lucy becomes increasingly aware of her own identity and develops a relationship with her best friend Kenny, she begins to question the stability of her parents' marriage and the realities of the family life she once took for granted.
Based on Pete Fromm's novel of the same name, As Cool as I Am explores coming-of-age experiences, teenage relationships, family dynamics, self-discovery, and the emotional challenges of growing up. With performances from Sarah Bolger, Thomas Mann, James Marsden, and Claire Danes, this 2013 comedy-drama offers a character-focused story about adolescence, independence, and discovering a more complicated world beyond childhood.
