About this video
Kandisha (2008) is a Moroccan horror mystery thriller directed and written by Jérôme Cohen-Olivar, blending crime, fantasy, supernatural suspense, and Moroccan folklore. Amira Casar stars as Nyla Jayde, a criminal defense attorney devastated by the loss of her child, who becomes involved in a disturbing case surrounding Kandisha, a vengeful spirit rooted in a centuries-old Moroccan legend.
The case begins when a woman accused of killing her abusive husband claims that she did not commit the murder and that Kandisha was responsible for his death. As Nyla investigates, the boundary between criminal mystery, grief, folklore, and supernatural terror becomes increasingly uncertain. The film explores vengeance, trauma, belief, justice, and the frightening consequences of confronting an ancient legend.
Featuring Hiam Abbass, Amal Ayouch, Saïd Taghmaoui, Assaad Bouab, Michaël Cohen, and David Carradine alongside Amira Casar, Kandisha offers a dark supernatural story shaped by Moroccan cultural mythology and an unsettling investigation. With its combination of horror, fantasy, crime, mystery, and thriller elements, the 2008 film is centered on the ominous legend of Kandisha and Nyla Jayde's search for the truth.
