About this video
Inherent Vice (2014) is a darkly comic neo-noir mystery directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and starring Joaquin Phoenix as private detective Larry “Doc” Sportello. Set in Los Angeles in the late 1960s, the film blends crime, comedy, mystery, and detective drama into a hazy investigation filled with strange characters, tangled relationships, and unexpected twists.
Based on Thomas Pynchon’s novel, the story follows Doc Sportello as he becomes involved in a complicated case after his former girlfriend asks him to investigate the disappearance of her lover and his connection to a mysterious organization. As Doc digs deeper, the investigation leads through a bizarre world of missing persons, criminal schemes, police pressure, drugs, and conflicting clues.
Featuring Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Benicio del Toro, and Martin Short alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Inherent Vice captures the eccentric atmosphere of 1960s California through Paul Thomas Anderson’s distinctive filmmaking style. The movie combines psychological mystery, private-eye noir, offbeat comedy, and period drama while keeping its central investigation deliberately unpredictable.
Inherent Vice is a visually atmospheric crime mystery for viewers interested in Paul Thomas Anderson films, Joaquin Phoenix movies, neo-noir detective stories, Thomas Pynchon adaptations, and unconventional mystery comedies. This 1080p presentation delivers the film in high-definition quality for an immersive viewing experience.
