About this video
The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973) is a gritty American crime drama directed by Peter Yates and starring Robert Mitchum as Eddie “Fingers” Coyle, a weary small-time Boston gunrunner caught between prison, the police, and the criminal underworld. Based on George V. Higgins’s acclaimed novel, the film delivers a stark, realistic portrait of loyalty, betrayal, crime, and survival.
As Eddie faces the prospect of another prison sentence, he considers becoming an informant while continuing to work within Boston’s criminal world. His dealings with law enforcement and fellow criminals place him in an increasingly dangerous position, where trust is fragile and betrayal can carry fatal consequences. Robert Mitchum leads a strong cast that includes Peter Boyle, Richard Jordan, Steven Keats, Alex Rocco, and Joe Santos.
Known for its grounded performances, authentic Boston locations, and uncompromising atmosphere, The Friends of Eddie Coyle stands as a notable 1970s neo-noir crime film. Peter Yates’s direction and Dave Grusin’s score complement a tense story centered on organized crime, gunrunning, informants, and the harsh realities of life on the fringes of the Boston underworld. This 1080p presentation brings the 1973 crime classic to viewers seeking acclaimed American gangster and neo-noir cinema.
