About this video
Woman Is the Future of Man (2004) is a South Korean drama film directed by Hong Sang-soo, known for his subtle storytelling, naturalistic dialogue, and thoughtful exploration of human relationships. Also known by its Korean title Yeojaneun namjaui miraeda, the film examines love, memory, desire, and the complicated emotional connections that linger between people long after their relationships have changed.
The film follows two longtime friends, Lee Mun-ho, an art lecturer played by Yoo Ji-tae, and Kim Hyeon-gon, a filmmaker played by Kim Tae-woo, who reconnect after years apart. As they reminisce about their shared past, they decide to seek out Park Seon-hwa, portrayed by Sung Hyun-ah, the woman they both loved at different times. Their reunion brings unresolved feelings, old attractions, uncomfortable memories, and complicated personal histories back to the surface.
Directed and written by acclaimed filmmaker Hong Sang-soo, Woman Is the Future of Man is a character-driven Korean art-house drama that explores nostalgia, romantic rivalry, desire, and the gap between memory and reality. Rather than relying on conventional romantic storytelling, the film uses understated performances, naturalistic conversations, and morally ambiguous characters to examine the contradictions of human relationships. The film was selected for the competition at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.
Presented in 1080p BluRay quality, Woman Is the Future of Man (2004) is worth exploring for viewers interested in Korean cinema, independent world cinema, slow-burn relationship dramas, and the distinctive filmmaking style of Hong Sang-soo.
