About this video
Yam Daabo (1987), also known as The Choice, is a powerful Burkinabè drama directed and written by acclaimed filmmaker Idrissa Ouédraogo. Set in the drought-stricken Sahel region of Burkina Faso, this thoughtful African cinema classic follows an impoverished family facing a difficult decision: remain in their struggling community and depend on international assistance or leave in search of fertile land, independence, and a better future.
As the family begins a new chapter in the countryside, Yam Daabo explores the challenges of survival, poverty, family relationships, love, personal choices, and self-determination. Through the lives of ordinary people, the film presents an intimate portrait of rural African society, highlighting the importance of dignity, resilience, community, and the desire for a more independent life.
The film stars Aoua Guiraud, Moussa Bologo, Assita Ouédraogo, Ousmane Sawadogo, Fatimata Ouédraogo, and Rasmané Ouédraogo. Featuring music by Francis Bebey, Yam Daabo is Idrissa Ouédraogo's remarkable feature-film debut and an important work in the history of Burkinabè and African cinema.
Experience Yam Daabo (1987) in 1080p BluRay quality, a beautifully observed African drama that connects a family's personal struggles with wider questions of social change, independence, and human dignity.
