Barb Wire (1996) is a stylish dystopian action and science-fiction movie starring Pamela Anderson as the tough, independent mercenary and nightclub owner Barb Wire. Directed by David Hogan, the film is set during a fictional Second American Civil War in 2017, where the United States has fallen into political and social chaos. Barb operates the Hammerhead nightclub in Steel Harbor, one of the last relatively free cities in a country controlled by an authoritarian Congressional Directorate. By day she runs her business, but when necessary, she works as a bounty hunter and mercenary, determined to survive by staying neutral in a dangerous world.

Barb's carefully controlled life changes when Dr. Cora Devonshire, played by Victoria Rowell, arrives at the Hammerhead seeking a way out of Steel Harbor. Cora possesses information about a devastating biological weapon known as Red Ribbon, which the government intends to use as part of its war strategy. Complicating matters further, Cora is accompanied by Axel Hood, played by Temuera Morrison, a resistance fighter and Barb's former lover. Their unexpected reunion forces Barb to confront a past she has tried to leave behind while becoming involved in a dangerous escape operation.

As the government closes in, Barb Wire combines futuristic dystopian imagery, gunfights, mercenary action, political intrigue, romance, and comic-book-inspired adventure. Pamela Anderson's Barb is positioned at the center of the story as a nightclub owner who refuses to be controlled by either side of the conflict. The supporting cast includes Temuera Morrison, Victoria Rowell, Xander Berkeley, Jack Noseworthy, Steve Railsback, Udo Kier, and Clint Howard, adding a distinctive collection of characters to the movie's post-apocalyptic world. The film was based on the Dark Horse comic character created by Chris Warner and features a screenplay credited to Chuck Pfarrer and Ilene Chaiken.

For viewers searching for a 1990s sci-fi action movie, Pamela Anderson movies, dystopian movies, comic book adaptations, or female-led action films, Barb Wire (1996) offers an unmistakably mid-1990s combination of futuristic atmosphere, action, romance, and pulp comic-book style. With its Steel Harbor setting, mercenary heroine, resistance storyline, government conspiracy, biological-weapon plot, and memorable visual identity, the movie remains a recognizable entry in 1990s science-fiction and action cinema. Barb Wire runs approximately 98 minutes and is rated R, with its principal genres listed as Action and Sci-Fi.
