Sony Pictures is officially taking the symbiotic anti-hero Venom into the world of animation. Following the massive success of the live-action trilogy, the studio is developing a new animated film centered on Venom, the iconic Spider-Man spin-off character.
According to sources, the project is currently in its very early stages of development. At the helm will be the directing duo Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, who recently found success with the hit horror film Final Destination: Bloodline Curse (released last year). Their involvement signals that the animated feature may carry a similar edge to the live-action films, blending dark themes with the chaotic energy of the character.

A Billion-Dollar Franchise Goes Animated
The Venom live-action trilogy, starring Tom Hardy, has been Sony's most successful "Spider-Man spin-off" series to date. Released in 2018, 2021, and 2024, the three films collectively grossed nearly US$2 billion at the global box office. This animated project aims to capitalize on that momentum and expand the franchise into new storytelling formats.

At present, it is unknown whether Tom Hardy will reprise his role to voice the character in the animated feature. Given the early stage of production, casting details have yet to be finalized.

Sony's Growing Animated Universe
This new Venom animated film adds to Sony's growing portfolio of animated Spider-Man projects. The studio has previously found critical and commercial success with the Spider-Verse franchise, which includes the Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and its sequel, Across the Spider-Verse.
However, fans awaiting the third installment in that series, Beyond the Spider-Verse, will have to wait a little longer. The film has faced repeated delays and is currently slated for a 2027 release.

As for the Venom animated film, no production timeline or release date has been announced. We will bring you more details as they emerge.
