About this video
Aç Kurtlar (1969), also known internationally as The Hungry Wolves, is a classic Turkish action, adventure, drama, and Western film written and directed by legendary filmmaker Yılmaz Güney. Set against the rugged landscapes of rural Turkey, this powerful black-and-white film follows Serçe Memet (Yılmaz Güney), a former village teacher whose life is shattered by tragedy and violence.
After losing his wife to the brutality of mountain bandits, Memet abandons his former life and becomes a relentless hunter of outlaws. Driven by grief, revenge, and a desire for justice, he ventures into the mountains to confront dangerous gangs and their ruthless leaders. His journey takes him through a harsh world of crime, revenge, violence, and survival, where the boundaries between justice and vengeance become increasingly difficult to distinguish.
Featuring Yılmaz Güney, Sevgi Can, Hayati Hamzaoğlu, Türkan Ağralı, İhsan Gedik, Sırrı Elitaş, and Bilal İnci, Aç Kurtlar showcases the distinctive storytelling and filmmaking of Yılmaz Güney. Combining Turkish Yeşilçam cinema traditions with the atmosphere of a spaghetti Western, this 1969 adventure drama explores human suffering, injustice, revenge, and the consequences of violence.
