Al Pacino will be honored with the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award on Feb. 28, 2027, at the Actor Awards. The Oscar, Emmy, and Tony winner is recognized for a career spanning seven decades and his humanitarian work.

Al Pacino is set to receive the highest honor his union can bestow.

SAG-AFTRA announced Thursday that the legendary actor will be awarded the 2026 SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, the 62nd recipient of the honor, recognizing both his career and humanitarian contributions. The award will be presented at the 33rd Actor Awards on February 28, 2027, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, streaming live on Netflix.

The Union's Tribute

In its announcement, SAG-AFTRA said Pacino "has captivated audiences across film, television, and stage with transformative performances, creating some of the most memorable characters in entertainment history and profoundly influencing generations of actors and the culture itself."

SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin did not hold back in his praise: "Like so many actors, I have spent a lifetime in awe and appreciation of Al Pacino, this force of nature. When you watch him perform, you are witnessing a student and a master. Al is an artist of extraordinary courage, intensity, and heart, and his body of work has consistently set a remarkable standard of skill and craftsmanship. Beyond all that, he's just plain good. SAG-AFTRA is proud to honor Al Pacino with our highest tribute."

Pacino's Response

Pacino offered a heartfelt statement of his own: "I have been lost and I have drifted in my life, but I have always felt at home in a script and among my fellow actors. These works and the actors I've shared them with have been among the greatest joys of my life. To be recognized by SAG-AFTRA and to celebrate this journey together is an honor."

Seven Decades of Work

Pacino's career spans seven decades. He made his major film debut in 1971's The Panic in Needle Park before starring as Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather, earning his first Oscar nomination. He went on to define an era with Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, and Scarface. In 1992, he became the first male actor to receive two Oscar acting nominations in the same year (Glengarry Glen Ross and Scent of a Woman), winning Best Actor for the latter.

On television, his work in HBO's Angels in America earned him an Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award, while You Don't Know Jack brought another Emmy. Recent credits include Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Martin Scorsese's The Irishman, and the Amazon series Hunters.

On stage, Pacino is a two-time Tony Award winner and received a Tony nomination for his 2010 performance in The Merchant of Venice at Shakespeare in the Park. This year, Shakespeare's Globe awarded him the Sam Wanamaker Award for his contributions to theater and film.

Humanitarian Work

The Life Achievement Award also recognizes Pacino's humanitarian efforts. He participated in the 2001 "America: A Tribute to Heroes" telethon, the ONE Campaign's "Make Poverty History" initiative, and 2012 Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. He has long supported the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles and received the Arthritis Foundation's Jane Wyman Humanitarian Award in 2009.
